Who we are
The Dusty Road is a creative workshop of experienced upholsterers, sewers and makers. In the ecosystem of design, we're the hands that bring ideas to life, or keep old ones out of landfill. We blur the lines between textiles, craft, art and design, sewing the line between sentiment and possibility, always choosing creative process and craftsmanship over convenience.

We're the creators for creatives to bounce ideas off, and we mean that literally, ask our sofas. Craftspeople you can count on for meticulous work, on repeat and on time. Makers that bring your ideas to 3D form, with function. We're your greatest resource for new materials because we're forever down rabbit holes finding them for you.

We’re couch therapists, not couch potatoes
We're the people who walk into a room and notice the furniture first. We can't sit on a couch without running our hands over the seams, lifting a cushion to see what's underneath, or unzipping a cover just to see what's inside (hoping for a $50 note but knowing it’ll be an apple tv remote). We're wildly obsessed & quite mad when it comes to upholstery, but we try to make every experience as interesting, comfy and memorable as the pieces we create.

What we do
We specialise in bespoke high-end upholstery, detailed soft furnishings for indoors and outdoors, and custom-made furniture for commercial and residential projects.

Sunken lounges built for the recline of your life. Sofas, chairs, bedheads, beds and banquette seating, reupholstered or custom built in-house at The Dusty Road or in collaboration with other makers.

Daybeds made for reading and resting. Bolsters and cushions on repeat, because pillow talk is serious business around here.

With projects across Melbourne, Sydney, Northern Rivers, Gold Coast and Brisbane, we work with interior designers, architects, builders, fellow craftspeople and individuals who value craftsmanship over catalogues, and creative culture over fast furniture culture.

We are living in a material world
We're fabric-obsessed, but what's on the inside counts too. The Dusty Road has a dedicated materials library, collected and curated over a decade of fabrics, ranging from cheap-and-cheerful (but still excellent), to hard-wearing (for the love of wine, 3 kids and a dog), through to fully sustainable and unapologetically high-end designer. Curated and available for a good time, for the flicking and the picking.

We have more cushion ideas than Pinterest, every foam, fill, wrap, bolster, cushion and finishing technique you've never thought of, all laid out for you so you can build your own seat dreams.

We'll spend the time finding the right fit for your project, because it's not only our job to make your life cushier, we chair deeply about quality, longevity, comfort, durability and sustainability, all at once.
